Modern cosmology has made a great progress in our understanding of the physical universe and its constituents. We now know that only about 5% of the entire matter and energy content of the universe is made out of the atoms and particles we know about; nearly a quarter is made out of the mysterious dark matter, and nearly three quarters is an even more mysterious dark energy, which drives the expansion of the universe. Their physical nature remains unknown, and this is one of the greatest outstanding puzzles in physical sciences today.
